WELCOME TO

ST MARY’S CHURCH

St Mary’s is the Parish Church near the centre of Liss, Hampshire.  We offer a range of different worship styles from All-Age services and ‘Messy Church’ to BCP Holy Communion and Evensong.  We endeavour to provide a warm and inclusive welcome to everyone. If you are interested in knowing more, details of services and activities can be found on this site.  Please do contact us if you want further information.

CORONAVIRUS

Following direction from the Archbishops and in line with all other churches in the Church of England, church services have been stopped for the time being.

These are difficult and challenging times, but I think Liss is a special place and I hope the acts of kindness and generosity we’ve witnessed at the beginning of this situation will continue throughout and beyond it. Our top priority is to keep people safe. If you know of anyone locally who needs practical support of a friendly phone call, please let us know.

Please stay safe.

We have moved!

(for six months)

St Mary’s is currently embarking on the biggest change to the building since the tower was added 87 years ago.

A church building which met the needs of the community in 1892 is struggling to do so 127 years later. Our motivation for this project is to create a space that helps us to be more hospitable, welcoming and engaging to a broader section of our community including young people, families and older people. We want to have a building that offers more creative opportunities both for the church family and the whole village.

Permission to go-ahead with these improvements is the culmination of many, many hours of work and we are enormously indebted to the team and everyone who has helped get us to this point.

Where are we meeting during the work?

Although we had hoped to be finished and the church re-opened by 26 April, the Covid-19 restrictions mean that some of the work can not be completed during the lockdown and additionally the church is not allowed to be open during this time.

We will keep you updated as to when we will be reopening.

In the meantime, please see the information on the homepage about the services being live streamed on our Facebook page.

The livestream for each Sunday is on this home page  and other videos uploaded onto facebook can be seen HERE.

What Are We Doing?

● All the radiators in the church are being replaced.
● New, computer-controlled LED lighting throughout the nave and chancel.
● New speakers, microphones, sound desk, loop system, screen and projector. The screen will be lowered electronically from the ceiling.
● A glass screen installed between the bell tower and the nave to preserve heat loss.
● The old organ removed to accommodate a large storage space below and a new room above.
● The pulpit, metal railings and choir pews removed and the chancel extended slightly to create a useable and flexible space.
● The font to be moved to the south aisle.
● New Communion table and lectern to be commissioned.
● A new kitchen using the space where the toilets are currently.
● New toilets in the current storage room
