ST MARY’S CHURCH
St Mary’s is the Parish Church near the centre of Liss, Hampshire. We offer a range of different worship styles from All-Age services and ‘Messy Church’ to BCP Holy Communion and Evensong. We endeavour to provide a warm and inclusive welcome to everyone. If you are interested in knowing more, details of services and activities can be found on this site. Please do contact us if you want further information.
We Are Moving!
(for six months)
We have just received permission to embark on the biggest change to St Mary’s since the tower was added 87 years ago.
In 2011 a group of us met to discuss how the church could be more relevant and effective. Many of the suggestions at the time have been implemented, but the most significant, (and the most expensive), only received the go-ahead at the end of August, and it relates to changes within the church building.
A church building which met the needs of the community in 1892 is struggling to do so 127 years later. Our motivation for this project is to create a space that helps us to be more hospitable, welcoming and engaging to a broader section of our community including young people, families and older people. We want to have a building that offers more creative opportunities both for the church family and the whole village. A small group has been meeting regularly since 2012 and the permission to go-ahead with these improvements is the culmination of many, many hours of work and we are enormously indebted to the team and everyone who has helped get us to this point.
Where will Services take place during the building work?
When the work begins towards the end of September, the building will be full of contractors and will not be accessible to anyone else. We will endeavour to maintain access to as many of the graves and memorials as possible.
The final service before closing will be our Harvest Festival on 15 September followed by our bring-and-share Harvest Lunch.
